Although collectively they don&#8217;t form large scale displays, one of our native shrubs also has beautiful autumn foliage colors. The 3 to 5-lobed leaves of <a href=\"https:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/firefly\/2005\/12\/18\/thurbers-cotton\/\">Thurber\u2019s Cotton (Gossypium thurberi)<\/a> turn a brilliant red in the fall.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/images\/firefly\/2006\/November\/Gossypium-thurberi-2.jpg\" alt=\"Autumn leaf colors of Thurber\u2019s Cotton (Gossypium thurberi)\" title=\"Autumn leaf colors of Thurber\u2019s Cotton (Gossypium thurberi)\" width=\"480\" height=\"358\" class=\"post-photo\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The green balls at the branch tips are the developing seed capsules, which will eventually split open and reveal the large seeds and sparse cotton fibers inside.
