I spotted this popular feeder at someone&#8217;s house here in Tucson, and I now have two of my own.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/images\/firefly\/2006\/January\/finch-feeder.jpg\" alt=\"Lesser Goldfinches (Carduelis psaltria) and a male House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus) at a mesh sock finch feeder\" title=\"Lesser Goldfinches (Carduelis psaltria) and a male House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus) at a mesh sock finch feeder\" width=\"350\" height=\"467\" class=\"post-photo\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I filled my mesh sock feeders with thistle seeds, and so far they have been visited by numerous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birds.cornell.edu\/programs\/AllAboutBirds\/BirdGuide\/Lesser_Goldfinch_dtl.html\">Lesser Goldfinches (Carduelis psaltria)<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birds.cornell.edu\/programs\/AllAboutBirds\/BirdGuide\/House_Finch_dtl.html\">House Finches (Carpodacus mexicanus)<\/a>, and the occasional <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birds.cornell.edu\/programs\/AllAboutBirds\/BirdGuide\/House_Sparrow_dtl.html\">House Sparrow (Passer domesticus)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/images\/firefly\/2006\/January\/House-Sparrow.jpg\" alt=\"Male House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) at a mesh sock finch feeder\" title=\"Male House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) at a mesh sock finch feeder\" width=\"300\" height=\"389\" class=\"post-photo\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Birdseed should be kept dry to prevent the seed from becoming moldy and making the birds sick, and unless they were hung under a roof, these mesh sock feeders would not be a good idea for rainy climates. Strangely, we have had no winter rains this year here in Tucson, so I&#8217;ve not had to move or bring in my mesh bag feeders yet.
