{"id":340,"date":"2005-12-17T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2005-12-17T17:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/fire\/2005\/12\/17\/bee-sleeping-in-a-flower\/"},"modified":"2008-01-23T19:59:12","modified_gmt":"2008-01-24T02:59:12","slug":"bee-sleeping-in-a-flower","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/firefly\/2005\/12\/17\/bee-sleeping-in-a-flower\/","title":{"rendered":"Bee Sleeping in a Flower"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Late one October afternoon, I found this fuzzy bee (or bee mimic?) sleeping in an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fireflyforest.com\/flowers\/1105\/fallugia-paradoxa-apache-plume\/\">Apache Plume (Fallugia paradoxa)<\/a> flower.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/images\/firefly\/2005\/December\/fuzzy-bee-in-a-flower.jpg\" alt=\"Bee sleeping in an Apache Plume (Fallugia paradoxa) flower\" title=\"Bee sleeping in an Apache Plume (Fallugia paradoxa) flower\" width=\"480\" height=\"480\" class=\"post-photo\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I first saw this bee laying motionless on its side, I wasn&#8217;t sure if it was dead or just sleeping, as I have seen solitary desert bees sleeping in flowers before. I took this photo and wandered off to take some more wildflower photos. When I came back, the bee was still there. I just had to know if it was alive or not, so I bumped the flower. The little fuzzy bee woke up and flew off to another Apache Plume flower, where I left the sleepy bee undisturbed this time.<\/p>\n<p>This is not a <a href=\"https:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/firefly\/2005\/11\/22\/africanized-honeybees\/\">Honeybee (Apis mellifera)<\/a>, but other than that I don&#8217;t know what species it is. It is very fuzzy and has reflective eyes like mirrors.
