{"id":152,"date":"2005-07-07T00:03:00","date_gmt":"2005-07-07T07:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/fire\/2005\/07\/07\/arizona-rosewood\/"},"modified":"2006-11-01T22:31:35","modified_gmt":"2006-11-02T05:31:35","slug":"arizona-rosewood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/firefly\/2005\/07\/07\/arizona-rosewood\/","title":{"rendered":"Arizona Rosewood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fireflyforest.com\/flowers\/2515\/vauquelinia-californica-arizona-rosewood\/\">Arizona Rosewoods (Vauquelinia californica)<\/a> are large shrubs or small trees that can be found growing in upland desert, chaparral, and oak-juniper woodland areas here in southern Arizona. <a href=\"https:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/firefly\/2005\/04\/30\/molino-canyon-vista-overlook\/\">Molino Canyon Vista Overlook<\/a> near Tucson has several Arizona Rosewoods on its short nature trail and there&#8217;s even a helpful sign there to identify them.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/fireflyforest.net\/images\/firefly\/2005\/July\/Vauquelinia-californica.jpg\" alt=\"Arizona Rosewood (Vauquelinia californica) flowers\" title=\"Arizona Rosewood (Vauquelinia californica) flowers\" width=\"480\" height=\"352\" class=\"post-photo\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These attractive, native shrubs make excellent, low-care hedges or small patio trees, and they are a good alternative to the non-native <a href=\"http:\/\/ag.arizona.edu\/pima\/gardening\/aridplants\/Nerium_oleander.html\">Oleander (Nerium oleander)<\/a> which is so commonly grown around Tucson. Arizona Rosewoods are evergreen and bloom during May and June.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona Rosewood is a member of the Rose Family (Rosaceae), but this Arizona plant is called &#8220;Rosewood&#8221; because its reddish, rose-colored wood can be used to make attractive, durable carvings.
