Arizona Bluecurls

One of my favorite summer wildflowers found here in the Sonoran Desert is the delicately graceful Arizona Bluecurls (Trichostema arizonicum).

Arizona Bluecurls (Trichostema arizonicum) flowers

These small, native shrubs bloom after the summer monsoon rains, and their characteristic violet-blue and white flowers have four distinctive, long, curving stamens. Arizona Bluecurls are members of the Mint Family (Lamiaceae), and here in Arizona, they can be found growing in upland areas above 3500 feet (1067 m).
