Ruddy Ducks (Oxyura jamaicensis) can be found in large ponds and wetland areas around Tucson. Ruddy Ducks are small and plump with stiff, upright tails that give them a rather jaunty appearance. Male Ruddy Ducks in breeding plumage, such as this one, are cinnamon red in color with bright blue bills, white cheeks, and dark caps.

Female Ruddy Ducks are mostly dark brown and much duller in color.
