Juvenile Western Screech-Owl

Western Screech-Owls (Megascops kennicottii) often nest in my yard because I have several owl birdhouses for them and a small bird pond for the permanent water source they require.

I don't know where the owls nested this year, but juvenile Western Screech-Owls are now hanging around my yard. They usually try a new sleeping spot each day, and some of these sleeping spots are in rather odd locations. Yesterday, one was sleeping amongst old pots, lumber, and other gardening junk behind my garden wall.

These small owls can be a bit bad-tempered, and this one was quite annoyed at being disturbed while sleeping, with the grumpy, squinty-eyed, and semi-confused look of any prematurely awakened sleeper.
