Tanque Verde Wash is just a few minutes from my house, and I like to go there not only to look for wildflowers, but also to walk my 4 dogs. After rainstorms, my dogs love to wade in the usually shallow water that flows gently in narrow channels in the deep sand.
For many months of the year, the wash is completely dry, but it often flows during the winter and summer rainy seasons. It was looking quite good for spring wildflowers this year, but a prior large rainstorm caused this wash to dangerously flood. It not only washed away the nearby road that crosses the wash, it also washed away all the young wildflowers growing in the sand.
