Exotic Doves in Tucson, Arizona
Written by T. Beth Kinsey on August 29, 2007Tucson has three non-native dove species, the city-loving Common or Rock Pigeon (Columba livia) and the less common Ringed Turtle-Dove (Streptopelia risoria) and Eurasian Collared-dove (Streptopelia decaocto). I will occasionally see Ringed Turtle-Doves (aviary escapes) at my bird feeders. I have never seen an Eurasian Collared-dove, but they are becoming increasingly common and could potentially outcompete native species. Because of this, the Arizona Fish and Game Department now has a no-limit, all-year season for Eurasian Collared-doves.
