Droplet of Mesquite Sap
November 26, 2005, updated May 8, 2006I will occasionally see things that are a bit unusual when I'm out hunting for wildflowers, such as this Arizona Foldwing (Dicliptera resupinata) flower caught in a long, sticky droplet of mesquite sap.

The string of sap probably started out as a spider web dangling from a mesquite branch, and the web was gradually coated with sap as successive drops of black mesquite sap trickled down its length.
