Mojave Milkweed
September 11, 2005, updated November 13, 2006Mojave Milkweed (Asclepias nyctaginifolia) has pale green and white flowers and large, lance-shaped to elongated oval leaves.

The numerous species of milkweeds are quite variable, with many different leaf shapes and flower colors, but they can all generally be identified by their characteristic flower shape, each with 5 petals and 5, upright hoods.
Mojave Milkweed and other milkweeds contain cardiac glycosides and are poisonous. The symptoms of milkweed poisoning in humans or animals can include lethargy, weakness, bloating, inability to stand upright, elevated body temperature, rapid and weak pulse, difficulty in breathing, spasms, dilated pupils, and coma.
