The Sonoran Desert, because of its remarkable biodiversity, has many species of edible, medicinal, or otherwise useful plants. Here are a few places where you can learn about them:

  • Desert Medicine Woman's Plants is a lovely, interesting web journal about Tucson plants (both wild and cultivated) and herbal information, including a variety of herbal recipes.
  • The Food Plants of the Sonoran Desert is an interesting book with information on edible native plants and some nice recipes for them.
  • Michael Moore's Southwest School of Botanical Medicine website has an abundance of information on herbalism, along with many plant photos. The Southwest School of Botanical Medicine is located in Bisbee, Arizona.
  • The Tucson Clinic of Botanical Medicine website has information on edible and medicinal plants of the southwestern US, along with helpful profiles of individual plants.
