Good Content, Bad Web Design 1
April 16, 2005, updated April 29, 2008The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum's Flowering Plants of the Sonoran Desert is one of several plant websites that I've discovered which have very good content, but really bad web design. Here it's incompatible (and completely unnecessary) javascript that is triggered by moving your mouse over a link. It's meant to display a pop-up link description, but it does not work in Firefox or in Safari (Apple's browser). Javascript alert boxes pop up instead which makes the links non-functional. If you wish to look at this interesting website, please use Internet Explorer as it is the only browser (at least for Macintosh) that works.
Update: As of April, 2008, this website has been fixed, but the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum's Natural History of the Sonoran Desert website [www.desertmuseum.org/books/nhsd_welcome.php] has been hacked and is serving up search query-targeted spam pages, especially when accessed through a Google search. For the safety of your computer, I would recommend avoiding it until it is fixed.
